The next Archdeacon of Buckingham will be the Revd Cassa Messervy. She takes up the role in March next year.

Cassa is currently the rector of the Wychert Vale benefice, having moved there in 2021 and has spent all her time in the diocese after she was ordained in 2011. She served her curacy in Beaconsfield, before moving to Seer Green and Jordans.

She said: “I was surprised and delighted by my call to this role! It has been a joy to serve in the Wychert Vale Benefice and to see God at work here. I am looking forward to seeing all that God is doing in our deaneries and working with and for the wonderful people of the Buckingham Archdeaconry.”

During her time in the diocese, Cassa has served as an associate Area Dean in Amersham and as a Co-Area Dean in Aylesbury. She has also served on the Diocesan Synod, the Bishop’s Council, and Oxford Diocesan Bucks Schools Trust. Cassa is chair of the English Clergy Association and Lighthouse Haddenham.

Bishop of Buckingham, the Rt Revd Dave Bull, said: “We very much look forward to welcoming Cassa to the senior team in the Buckingham area. Having first met Cassa over a decade ago, I know she brings to the role both vibrant faith and significant leadership gifts. She has spent all of her ordained life in this county, so Cassa already has a deep knowledge of parish life here and awareness of the work the Holy Spirit in town and village life. Please pray for her and her family as she prepares to take up her role.”

Cassa is passionate about children, schools and families ministry and has been involved with Lighthouse Beaconsfield, planting new family focussed congregations and has served as a governor in several schools. Cassa has an academic interest in ecclesiastical law. Cassa is married to Myles, who is an electrical engineer, and they have three children.

Cassa takes up the role after the Revd Guy Elsmore retired in September last year, after nine years’ service.

Role description:  Christian Aid Coordinator for Stone, Bishopstone and Hartwell

Please contact Richard Smith for more information or if you would be interested in this role: Richard.Smith@stonedintonhartwell.com

We are seeking someone to be a link person for Christian Aid for Stone, Bishopstone and Hartwell.  Sue Spinks, who has held this responsibility for many years, has recently retired.

Christian Aid is a global charity whose aim is to eliminate poverty, particularly where this has come about through natural disaster.

There are many ways in which churches can work with, and support Christian Aid, but this is most often done by raising funds and raising awareness of the work of the charity, particularly during Christian Aid week (10-16 May 2026), and around Harvest and Christmas.

The traditional fundraising method of door-to-door collections is becoming less popular and less effective as fewer people carry cash these days, although envelopes now carry QR codes for those who wish to donate on-line.

Christian Aid has many resources including posters, leaflets, video presentations, special orders of service and other fundraising materials which can be ordered or downloaded free of charge.  It is also possible to book speakers to give live presentations at local events.

The main responsibilities of our local Christian Aid coordinator will be to work with the SJB committee by:

  • Contributing ideas for local events to raise funds for Christian Aid and helping to coordinate these events.
  • Obtaining promotional materials from Christian Aid (usually available to order from late February)
  • Keeping in touch with other local Christian Aid coordinators.

To find out more, you are welcome to contact David Blackmore, who is a very experienced Christian Aid coordinator based in Weston Turville (davidbblackmore@gmail.com)

Here at St John the Baptist, Stone,
We have always welcomed dog walkers to enjoy our beautiful churchyard.

However, Recently there have been several incidents where our grounds have been damaged by dogs that have been left to freely roam and a lot of dog mess has been left behind which our gardening volunteers have had to deal with.

In light of this, we have had to make the decision to designate our churchyard as a dog on leads only area. We did not want to make this decision as we would love to keep the churchyard as a safe place for dogs to play, but the actions of a few have caused this to be necessary. We hope to be able to reverse this decision if things improve.
