About Joyfull Juniors

Joyfull Juniors is our Sunday School held on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month at SJB, Stone.

It is for children between x and x.

There is no sign up required and any child can drop into the sessions.

Most weeks are a stand alone topic so easy to pick up on algthogh some of the bigger themes may run over 2 weeks.

We use painting, drawing, moddeling and bible stories to help us learn.

St John the Baptist is holding aMacMillan Coffee Morning on Friday 25th September between 10:30 and 14:30 and you are invited.

We would love to see you for some Tea, Coffee and Cakes.

You can drop in for 5 minutes or join us for the full 4 hours, we would be happy to see you. All we ask for is a small donation (if you feel you can) to MacMillan Cancer Support.

Alongside the Coffee and Cakes, there will be a raffle for a hamper.

Every year we welcome Riders and Striders to our church who are raising funds for our historic churches in Buckinghamshire.
This year Rev. Phil Groves is planning to stride from Aston Sandford Church to Stone, taking in all the churches in the benefice. He intends to be at St Nicholas Cuddington for lunch and from there call in at Dinton Church before finishing at SJB for a cup of tea.
Phil would love anyone to join him on a part of the walk, even if it is just from the Methodist Church to SJB, or the whole thing. You can just join him for tea if you want. He will be praying in every church, especially for the new rector.

We are seeking someone to be a link person for Christian Aid for Stone, Bishopstone and Hartwell.  Sue Spinks, who has held this responsibility for many years, has recently retired.

Christian Aid is a global charity whose aim is to eliminate poverty, particularly where this has come about through natural disaster. 

There are many ways in which churches can work with, and support Christian Aid, but this is most often done by raising funds and raising awareness of the work of the charity, particularly during Christian Aid week (10-16 May 2026), and around Harvest and Christmas.

The traditional fundraising method of door-to-door collections is becoming less popular and less effective as fewer people carry cash these days, although envelopes now carry QR codes for those who wish to donate on-line. 

Christian Aid has many resources including posters, leaflets, video presentations, special orders of service and other fundraising materials which can be ordered or downloaded free of charge.  It is also possible to book speakers to give live presentations at local events.

The main responsibilities of our local Christian Aid coordinator will be to work with the SJB committee by:

  • Contributing ideas for local events to raise funds for Christian Aid and helping to coordinate these events.
  • Obtaining promotional materials from Christian Aid (usually available to order from late February)
  • Keeping in touch with other local Christian Aid coordinators.

Once again, we are opening St John the Baptist for the Bucks Historic Churches, Ride and Stride on Saturday 12th September 2026.
St John the Baptist will be open 9:00 – 18:00 with refreshments avaliable.

About Ride and Stride

Participants may be cyclists, walkers, horse-riders or drivers of mobility scooters. They can be of any age, but under-13s must be accompanied by an adult. All denominations are welcome.

Visit as many churches as you like, planning your own route. Seek sponsorship from friends, relations and colleagues, so much per church visited or a lump sum. More detail at: https://ridestride.org/

Ride + Stride is an event like no other why not take part this year and find out for yourself what extraordinary things lie behind the churchyard gates of Buckinghamshire’s many churches and chapels.

Ride + Stride is open to walkers as well as horse-riders and cyclists – in fact to anyone using a non-mechanical form of transport. It always takes place on the second Saturday of September between 10.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m., and the object is to raise money for the repair and restoration of churches and chapels of any Christian denomination in Buckinghamshire. Half the money raised goes to the church or chapel of the participant’s choice, and the other half is added to a general fund which is administered by the Buckinghamshire Historic Churches Trust. If you do not wish to nominate a church, you can instead donate 100% of the money raise direct to the Historic Churches Trust.

Churches are encouraged to make applications to BHCT for grants to help with church repairs and restoration.

Here at St John the Baptist, Stone,
We have always welcomed dog walkers to enjoy our beautiful churchyard.

However, Recently there have been several incidents where our grounds have been damaged by dogs that have been left to freely roam and a lot of dog mess has been left behind which our gardening volunteers have had to deal with.

In light of this, we have had to make the decision to designate our churchyard as a dog on leads only area. We did not want to make this decision as we would love to keep the churchyard as a safe place for dogs to play, but the actions of a few have caused this to be necessary. We hope to be able to reverse this decision if things improve.
